We’re feeling full of post Christmas and New Year festive season love and gratitude;

for our beautiful home which keeps us safe, warm, well-fed and playful, for our awesome guests who enable us to live such extraordinary lives, and for the magnificent ocean bringing waves to our doorstep.

To honour the ocean and our surfing family we took the sunset yoga practice to the beach for sun salutations and a beautiful ocean-inspired meditation.

Perfectly framed by Devils Rock and Cro Cro, our local beach faces the setting sun, the rocks providing shelter from the wind.

Here are a few things we learned in case you feel like doing the same;

  • Take a large beach towel or sarong to practice on, yoga mats are less easy to practice on with uneven ground.
  • Take warm layers for once the sun has set.
  • Check the tides, it is easier to find dry, hard sand at low tide.
  • If its high tide and big waves, it maybe easier to do a simple ocean meditation, using the sound of the waves to fill and cleanse your mind.
  • Take warm layers, for once the sun has set.
  • Try new poses. The beach provides plenty of space and a soft landing. Great place to have a go at harder poses like handstands, and balances like the Crow Pose or Half Moon Pose, face-planting in the sand is a little softer than in a studio.
  • Be prepared to wobble more, and have FUN….

Stay tuned for future Azul beach yoga classes. We look forward to seeing you on a mat, a surf board – or at the beach soon.
